Why drivers in Jordan use a dash cam

  • Evidence after an accident: video shows what really happened, which helps with the police report and the insurance company.
  • Protection when parked: with parking mode, many cameras record a bump or movement around the parked car.
  • Peace of mind: the car is recorded whether you are driving or parked.

Types of dash cams: front, rear, dual and more

Front dash cam (single-channel)

One camera on the windshield records the road ahead. It is the simplest to install, usually the most affordable, and covers most accidents.

Good for: most daily drivers.

Front and rear dash cam (dual-channel)

A second camera on the rear window, joined to the main unit by a cable, records at the same time, so you also capture a car hitting you from behind.

Good for: city traffic and cars parked on the street.

Interior and three-channel dash cams

A cabin lens faces into the car, often with infrared (IR) to see passengers in the dark. Three-channel systems record the front, the rear and the cabin together.

Good for: taxis, ride-hailing, school transport and company cars.

Mirror dash cam

The camera fits over the rearview mirror, shows the video on a screen in the mirror and usually includes a rear camera, keeping the windshield clear.

Good for: drivers who want a tidy look and a large screen.

4G connected dash cam

A 4G SIM card lets the camera send live video, location and alerts to a phone app or fleet platform while you are away.

Good for: business owners, fleets and families.

How to choose the best dash cam for your car

Resolution: 1080p, 2K or 4K

Resolution decides how much detail you get, especially on number plates. 1080p (Full HD, 1920×1080) is the minimum we suggest; "2K" covers 1440p (2560×1440) and 1600p; 4K (3840×2160) gives the most daylight detail. Higher resolution fills the memory card faster, and a fast-moving plate can still blur at any resolution.

Night recording

Night video depends on the image sensor and the aperture. The lower the f-number (F1.55 or F1.6 rather than F2.0), the more light the lens lets in. Noise reduction such as 3D DNR cleans up grainy footage, and IR helps cabin cameras see inside the car. Street lights and headlights still matter: no dash cam gives daylight quality at night.

Field of view

A wider angle covers more lanes. Our dash cams range from about 120° to 151° diagonal; very wide lenses bend the image near the edges.

Parking mode

Parking mode keeps the camera watching after you switch off the engine. Depending on the model, it records when it senses an impact or a change in the scene, or keeps recording at a low frame rate such as 1 frame per second. In many cars the 12V socket turns off with the ignition, so parking mode usually needs a hardwire kit connected to the fuse box. Check each model's parking options.

G-sensor and loop recording

Loop recording saves short clips and overwrites the oldest when the card is full. The G-sensor detects an impact or strong vibration and locks the current clip so it is not overwritten. If the sensitivity is too high on rough roads, the card fills with locked clips, so adjust it.

GPS, Wi-Fi and the phone app

GPS adds speed and location to the video and lets you replay the route. Built-in Wi-Fi lets your phone connect to the camera for live view, playback, downloads and settings without removing the card. Some models add voice commands and driver assistance (ADAS) alerts, such as speed limit recognition. A screen helps you aim the camera; a small body hides better behind the mirror.

Storage: which memory card?

Almost every dash cam records to a microSD (TF) card, often sold separately. Check the maximum capacity (128 GB or 256 GB on most of our models; the G2PRO also has built-in storage). A larger card holds more hours before the oldest footage is overwritten. Because a dash cam writes non-stop, choose a high-endurance card, prefer U3 or V30 for 2K and 4K, and format it in the camera every few weeks. Our camera storage guide explains card types.

Power: car socket, USB or hardwiring

Most dash cams plug into the 12V socket and start recording when the car starts. USB-powered models run on 5V, so a USB car charger such as the UGREEN 24W Dual USB Car Charger, which lists dash cams among compatible devices and works in 12V and 24V vehicles, can power the camera and still charge your phone. For parking mode, a hardwire kit uses three wires: constant battery, ignition (ACC), which tells the camera the engine is off, and ground. Choose a kit with a low-voltage cut-off so the battery can still start the car, and let an auto electrician fit it.

Heat in Jordan's summer

A car parked in the sun gets very hot, which is hard on dash cams and memory cards. Check the operating temperature (the G2PRO is rated -20°C to 65°C and the V300 -20°C to 70°C) and use a sunshade. Supercapacitor dash cams generally handle heat better than battery models; our dash cam encyclopedia (in Arabic) covers this and other technical topics in depth.

Installation and everyday tips

  • Position: mount the camera behind the rearview mirror, inside the area the wipers clean.
  • Cables: tuck them along the headliner and door trim, clear of airbags and pedals.
  • Date and time: set them correctly so the footage is useful as evidence.
  • Regular checks: make sure the camera is recording and save important clips to your phone before loop recording overwrites them.
  • Professional wiring: for parking mode, have an auto electrician hardwire the camera safely.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best car security camera in Jordan?

It depends on your needs. The Hikvision D1 Pro is a strong choice for a simple front camera, the C6S for 4K front detail, the G2PRO, 4K C8Pro or K5 for front and rear coverage with parking protection, and the three-channel V300 for taxis.

Should I get a front-only or a front and rear dash cam?

A front camera covers most accidents. If you drive in heavy traffic or park on the street, a dual-channel dash cam also records collisions and damage from behind.

Do dash cams record clearly at night?

Yes, but quality varies. Look for a low f-number such as F1.55 or F1.6; plates are easier to read on lit streets.

Does a dash cam record when the car is turned off?

Only with parking mode and a constant power supply, which usually means a hardwire kit connected to the fuse box.

What size memory card does a dash cam need?

Use the largest high-endurance card your model supports (128 GB or 256 GB on most of our models) for more hours before old clips are overwritten.

Will a dash cam drain my car battery?

Not in normal use, because it turns off with the car. In parking mode, use a hardwire kit with a low-voltage cut-off and limit the parking time if your model allows it (the K5 offers 12, 24 or 48 hours).

How much is a dash cam in Jordan?

It depends on resolution, the number of cameras and features like GPS or 4G. Current prices are on each product page in our dash cams for cars collection.

Can I watch dash cam videos on my phone?

Yes. Wi-Fi dash cams connect to your phone for live view and downloads near the car; for remote viewing from anywhere, choose a 4G model such as the Hikvision V6.
