The Amazon Echo Dot (5th Gen) is a compact smart speaker with the Alexa voice assistant built in. It plays audio over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, answers voice requests, controls compatible smart home devices, and adds an indoor temperature sensor that can be used in routines.

Alexa voice assistant: Ask Alexa to play music and podcasts, set timers and alarms, check the weather or answer questions. Everything is hands-free, so you can use it while cooking, working or relaxing.

Music over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth: The speaker streams audio over your Wi-Fi network, or you can connect your phone over Bluetooth and play what is on it.

Smart home control: Control compatible smart home devices such as plugs and lights with your voice, or set up routines in the Alexa app so several actions run together.

Indoor temperature sensor: The built-in temperature sensor measures the room temperature. You can use it in routines, for example to turn on a compatible fan or heater when the room gets too warm or too cold.

Wi-Fi extender with eero: With a compatible eero Wi-Fi system, the Echo Dot can also act as a Wi-Fi extender to improve coverage in the room where it is placed.

Privacy controls: A microphone off button electronically disconnects the microphones when you want privacy.

Good to know

The Echo Dot needs a Wi-Fi connection and the Alexa app for setup. The Wi-Fi extender function only works with compatible eero devices.
