The EZVIZ X5S-8W (model CS-X5S-R100-8W) is a wireless network video recorder that connects and records up to 8 IP cameras, over Wi-Fi or over a network cable. It records to one 3.5-inch SATA hard drive of up to 8 TB and shows the cameras on a monitor or TV through its HDMI and VGA outputs.

Up to 8 cameras at 3K (5 MP): The X5S-8W accepts up to eight 3K (5 MP) cameras, connected wirelessly or wired, and decodes up to eight 3K streams for playback. This lets one recorder cover a home or shop with several cameras and show them together on a split screen.

Built-in Wi-Fi with two antennas: The recorder has a 2.4 GHz radio with two antennas and EZVIZ states a maximum wireless range of 100 m in an open environment. In practice, walls, distance and interference from other devices reduce this range, so the camera position affects the connection.

H.265 compression: The X5S supports H.265 and H.264 video. H.265 makes recordings smaller than H.264 for the same picture, so the hard drive holds more days of footage and less bandwidth is needed.

Local storage up to 8 TB: One built-in SATA port takes a 3.5-inch hard drive from 1 TB to 8 TB. Footage stays on the recorder in your premises, and you choose the drive size according to how many days of recording you need.

HDMI and VGA outputs: Connect a TV or monitor by HDMI, or an older monitor by VGA (up to 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz, same picture as HDMI), to watch live view and playback without a computer.

Recording and playback modes: Recording can be manual, by motion detection, by schedule or triggered by events. Playback supports instant, normal, event, tag and log-event playback, which makes it quicker to find a specific moment.

Who it's for / Works with

EZVIZ Wi-Fi and wired IP cameras, and third-party IP cameras that conform to ONVIF. It suits homes, shops and small offices that want a recorder with a local hard drive and a monitor output.

Good to know

The hard drive is not included and must be bought separately. The X5S does not support battery-powered devices such as battery cameras, battery door viewers, doorbells and video doorphones. Wi-Fi range depends on the environment and the camera location.
