PlayStation Portal Remote Player

The PlayStation Portal Remote Player is a handheld device from Sony that streams games from your PS5 console over Wi-Fi to its 8-inch LCD screen, at 1080p and up to 60 fps. It builds the DualSense controller features, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, into the device, so you can keep playing your PS5 games when the TV is in use or from another room.

8-inch Full HD screen: The 8-inch LCD screen shows games at 1080p resolution at up to 60 frames per second. Sony notes that actual performance depends on the game and on your network.

DualSense features in your hands: In supported games, the Portal gives you haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, just like the DualSense wireless controller, so games feel the same as when you play on the TV.

Remote Play over Wi-Fi: The Portal connects to your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi. Sony requires a broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps and recommends 15 Mbps or more for the best experience. The PS5 must be powered on or in Rest Mode and paired with the Portal.

Audio options: Use the built-in speakers, a wired headset through the 3.5 mm audio jack, or PlayStation Link audio devices such as the PULSE Explore and PULSE Elite. Tempest 3D AudioTech works in supported games through a wired headset or a PlayStation Link device.

Who it's for / Works with

PS5 owners who want to play their console games away from the TV. It requires a PS5 console (sold separately) and a PlayStation account. PlayStation Plus is not required for Remote Play, but online multiplayer in games that need PS Plus requires an active membership.

Good to know

The Portal is not a standalone console: for Remote Play it needs a PS5 with a broadband connection. Games that require PS VR or PS VR2, and games that require peripherals other than DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense or DualSense Edge controllers, are not compatible. Initial setup must be done on a home Wi-Fi network.
