TP-Link AC750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender, 2 External Antennas | RE205

The TP-Link RE205 is a wall-plug Wi-Fi range extender. It connects wirelessly to your existing router and repeats its signal into rooms the router cannot reach, on both 2.4 GHz (300 Mbps) and 5 GHz (433 Mbps) — AC750 in total. It has two external antennas and one Ethernet port, and can also work as an access point.

Key Features

Dual-band AC750 extension: Separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands let more devices connect without slowing each other down. Use 5 GHz for faster streaming close by and 2.4 GHz for longer reach.

Two external antennas: Two adjustable external antennas give a more reliable wireless link to the router and to your devices.

Smart signal indicator: The signal light shows how strong the router signal is at the outlet, so you can find the best spot — roughly half way between the router and the dead zone.

Ethernet port and Access Point mode: Plug a wired device (PC, console, smart TV) into the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port to bring it onto Wi-Fi, or switch to Access Point mode to turn a wired internet connection into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Easy setup: Pair with the router using the WPS button, or set it up with the TP-Link Tether app or the web interface.

Who it's for / Works with

Homes and small offices with weak Wi-Fi in a few rooms that want a simple, low-cost fix. TP-Link states it works with any Wi-Fi router or wireless access point.

Good to know

  • The Ethernet port is 10/100 Mbps (not Gigabit).
  • An extender shares the router's connection, so speed through it is lower than next to the router; place it where the router signal is still good.
  • It may not work with routers running altered, open-source or outdated firmware (TP-Link note). Wi-Fi rates are maximum physical rates.
