The TP-Link LS1005G is a 5-port Gigabit desktop switch from TP-Link's LiteWave series of unmanaged switches. It adds more wired connections to your network: each of its five RJ45 ports runs at 10/100/1000 Mbps, and the switch has a total switching capacity of 10 Gbps.

Five Gigabit ports: All five ports auto-negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbps, and TP-Link describes them as non-blocking. In practice, every connected device can use full Gigabit speed, which helps when you move large files between computers or stream to a TV on the same network.

Plug and play: The switch is unmanaged, so there is nothing to set up: connect the power adapter, then plug in your router and your devices. All ports support Auto-MDI/MDIX, so you do not need to worry about which type of Ethernet cable you use.

Reliable data transfer: IEEE 802.3x flow control and back pressure help prevent lost data when a port receives more traffic than it can pass on at once. The switch uses the store-and-forward method and supports jumbo frames up to 16 KB.

Fanless, compact design: There is no fan, so the switch runs silently on a desk or in a living room. The plastic case measures 90 × 72 × 23 mm and can sit on a desk or be mounted on a wall.

TP-Link states that the LS1005G works with networked devices such as computers, printers, webcams and IPTV boxes, and that it suits networks in homes, small businesses, school dormitories and surveillance setups.

Good to know

This is an unmanaged switch: it has no web interface and no VLAN or QoS settings. It has no PoE, so it cannot power IP cameras or access points through the network cable. It runs from an external power adapter with a 5 V DC / 0.6 A output. TP-Link lists several hardware versions of the LS1005G; the specifications below are from TP-Link's current product page.
