The TP-Link TX201 is a PCI Express network card that adds a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port to a desktop computer. It reaches up to 2.5 Gbps, 2.5 times the speed of a standard Gigabit port, and it also works at 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps with older network equipment.

2.5 Gbps wired speed: With a 2.5G router, switch or NAS on the other end, the TX201 lets your PC transfer data at up to 2.5 Gbps. In practice this speeds up large file copies to and from a NAS and lets you use more of a multi-gig internet plan.

Works with your existing network: 2.5GBASE-T is backward compatible with Gigabit and Fast Ethernet, and the card negotiates the speed automatically. You can install it now and it will run at 1 Gbps until you upgrade your router or switch. TP-Link notes that a regular Cat5e cable is enough to reach 2.5 Gbps.

Low-profile and full-height brackets: Both a standard bracket and a low-profile bracket come in the box, so the card fits normal tower cases as well as slim mini-tower cases.

Wake on LAN: The card supports Wake on LAN, so a computer can be powered on remotely over the network, which is useful for centrally managed office PCs.

Desktop computers with a free PCIe slot running Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7, Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012 R2 or Linux, connected to a router, switch or NAS with a 2.5G or Gigabit port.

Good to know

The card is for desktop PCs with a PCIe slot; it does not fit laptops. The real speed is limited by the slowest device on the link: with a 1 Gbps router port you get up to 1 Gbps. TP-Link notes that drivers may need to be updated after an operating system update.
