Best Outdoor Security Cameras for Homes in Jordan: Night Vision, Zoom and Wi-Fi

Choosing the best outdoor security cameras for your home in Jordan comes down to four questions: how the camera connects (Wi-Fi, a PoE network cable, a 4G SIM card or a solar battery), how well it handles dust, rain and summer heat, what it shows at night, and where you mount it. This guide explains each choice, then suggests cameras for different homes, from an apartment balcony to a villa or a farm.

You can browse every model in our outdoor cameras collection. The cameras below are examples from our store; prices are shown on each product page.

Wi-Fi vs PoE vs 4G vs solar: which outdoor camera type fits your home?

Wi-Fi outdoor cameras

A Wi-Fi camera needs a power socket near the mounting point and a good Wi-Fi signal. It records to a micro SD card or the cloud, and you watch it in the brand's app. It is the easiest choice for apartments, rooftops and small houses. Most home Wi-Fi cameras use 2.4 GHz, and concrete and stone walls weaken the signal, so test it on your phone at the mounting spot before you drill. Some models, such as the Tapo C310, also have an Ethernet port as a backup.

Wired PoE cameras

With Power over Ethernet (PoE), one network cable carries both power and video to a PoE switch or an NVR with PoE ports. A cable run can be up to 100 metres, there is no Wi-Fi to drop, and the NVR records every camera to a hard drive around the clock. PoE is the most reliable option for villas, building entrances and systems of four or more cameras, but the cables must be run during installation.

4G SIM cameras

A 4G camera takes a data SIM card and sends video over the mobile network, so it works where there is no Wi-Fi: a farm, a chalet or a house still under construction. It still needs power, and live viewing uses mobile data, so choose a data package that matches how often you watch.

Solar and battery cameras

A battery camera with a solar panel needs no power or network cable, and Jordan's sunny weather suits it well. To save energy, most battery cameras record short clips when they detect motion rather than recording continuously. Our guide to solar and 4G cameras covers these models in detail.

How to choose an outdoor security camera

Weather resistance: IP65, IP66 or IP67

The IP rating shows protection against dust (first digit) and water (second digit). A 6 as the first digit means dust-tight, which matters in Jordan's dusty spring winds. For water, 5 means protection against water jets, 6 against powerful jets and 7 against temporary immersion. On an outside wall, IP65, IP66 and IP67 all handle rain and dust. The camera's rating does not cover the cable joint, so protect it in a waterproof junction box, and where you can, mount the camera under an eave or in shade rather than in direct afternoon sun.

Night vision: infrared, color and ColorVu

Infrared (IR) night vision gives a black-and-white image, often up to about 30 metres. Color night vision adds a built-in spotlight, so you can see the color of a car or clothing. Hikvision ColorVu cameras combine a large-aperture lens and a sensitive sensor with soft supplemental light to keep the picture in color around the clock, while Tapo's ColorPro uses an F1.0 lens and a large sensor to show color in very low light without spotlights. Do not mount a camera behind a window: IR light reflects off the glass and washes out the night image.

Resolution and lens

2MP (1080p) is the minimum outdoors, 3MP to 4MP (2K) suits most homes, and 5MP to 8MP (4K) helps when you need detail further away. A 2.8 mm lens gives a wide view of a yard, while a 4 mm or 6 mm lens covers a narrower area but shows faces from further away.

Fixed, pan-tilt and zoom cameras

A fixed bullet camera watches one area all the time, ideal for a gate or door. A pan-tilt (PT) camera turns from the app and can follow a person automatically, so one camera can cover a whole yard. Optical zoom magnifies with the lens without losing detail, digital zoom only enlarges pixels, and mixed zoom combines a telephoto lens with digital zoom.

Smart detection and storage

Human and vehicle detection cuts alerts from cats, trees and shadows. Wi-Fi cameras usually record to a micro SD card or cloud plan, while PoE systems record to a hard drive in an NVR. Our micro SD card and hard drive guide explains how much storage you need.

Where to place outdoor cameras at home

  • Entry points first: the main gate, front door, garage, back door and ground-floor windows, then the driveway.
  • Height and angle: about 2.5 to 3 metres high and angled slightly down, so faces are visible and the camera is out of reach.
  • Light: do not point the camera at the sun or a street lamp, which leaves faces dark.
  • Signal and power: check the Wi-Fi or 4G signal and plan the cable route before drilling.
  • Privacy: aim cameras at your own property, not into neighbours' windows or yards.

Tips for outdoor cameras in Jordan

  • Wipe the lens after dust storms; a dusty lens gives a hazy picture, especially at night.
  • Use outdoor-rated cable and leave a small loop under each connection so rain drips off instead of running into it.
  • Put the router or NVR on a UPS so recording continues during short power cuts.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best outdoor security cameras for homes?

There is no single best camera for every home. For most houses, a 2K Wi-Fi camera such as the Tapo C310 or a dual-lens model such as the EZVIZ H9c is a strong choice, while villas are better served by a wired PoE system with cameras such as the Hikvision DS-2CD2047G2-L.

What is the best outdoor Wi-Fi camera?

Look for at least 2K resolution, IP65 or higher, person detection and an Ethernet port as a backup. The Tapo C325WB is a strong choice for color at night, and the EZVIZ H80F Multi for zoom.

What is the best wireless outdoor camera?

"Wireless" usually means Wi-Fi, but a Wi-Fi camera still needs a power cable. For no cables at all, choose a solar battery camera such as the Tapo C610 Kit. Without Wi-Fi, a 4G camera such as the EZVIZ H8c 4G uses a SIM card instead.

Which outdoor camera has the best zoom?

Choose a camera with a telephoto lens. The EZVIZ H80F Multi has a 12 mm lens, 12x mixed zoom and automatic zoom tracking. Digital zoom on a single-lens camera only enlarges pixels.

Which outdoor camera is best for night vision?

For color at night, choose ColorVu (Hikvision DS-2CD2047G2-L), ColorPro (Tapo C325WB) or a camera with built-in spotlights. Infrared cameras such as the Tapo C310 give a black-and-white image up to about 30 metres.

Do outdoor cameras work without internet?

Yes. Most cameras with a micro SD card keep recording to the card if the internet goes down, and PoE systems record to the NVR's hard drive. You need internet only to watch from your phone when you are away, and a 4G camera can provide it through a SIM card.

How much do outdoor security cameras cost in Jordan?

Prices depend on resolution, lenses and connection type, and they change, so we do not list them here. The current price is shown on each product page in our outdoor cameras collection.
